Du Er Ikke Alene (You Are Not Alone) Screencaps

Just watched this 1978 Danish coming-of-age film, Du er ikke alene (You Are Not Alone), and loved the set and costume design. You don't get much more covetable than 1970's Dansk / Scandinavian design these days and this movie is brimming with that authentic minimal / modern style.

(The movie was good-natured and takes many very cool moral stands, but was a little shocking to my North American sensibilities in other ways, which you'll likely understand if you've seen it.)

Mad Men Screencaps, S. 6 Ep. 9

Just a few inspiring scenes from this week's Mad Men, including:

... Peggy's office decor ...

... Betty's formal wear ...

Cleaning up the office

Well, Peter and I have had some unexpected bursts of productive energy lately, and one result has been that I've finally tackled the growing mess that had become of my "office" (the front non-master bedroom). I like my workspaces clean and if they are not, you can bet I am probably not doing much work. Here are some "after" pictures!

This is kind of my corner where I keep most of my Etsy supplies and products. I couldn't even see this wall before, and now it's so tidy and enjoyable. Aahh.

And my desk! The desk itself is lame - it's a piece from a Staples set, while I save up to buy a fancy mid-century teak table or something - but other features make it a little more Katharine.
100 year old antique chairs, check.
Greenery, check.
Lots of natural light, check.
Too many knick-knacks, check check check!
Colbert on the laptop, check!

This would probably look a little more put-together if the earring board were straight... Oh well. This is kind of my earring station - each of those little bowls, boxes and baskets have specific types of earrings in them. Then there's my magazine collection! There are several more shelves full. Oh, and my antique perfume bottle collection (mostly Chanel and Lanvin). What can I say, I'm a collector.

Yep, the room feels good. I've been adding so many things to Etsy since it's been clean. So motivating to have a workspace you want to actually hang out in!

Emerald!

Yay! Pantone actually picked a perfect 2013 Colour of the Year: Emerald! (I might have gone with mint or peach, but I guess that's sooo 2012). But this is pretty much my favourite colour, so I'm good.

Twenty-something days of Xmas

Today I was touched and excited to find that fellow Island blogger and cool fashion lady Rebecca at Lot 65 included my Etsy shop in her Island Christmas Gift Guide. I agree with all her ideas - believe it or not, PEI has a lot to offer to the sartorially inclined for such a little place.

So, in the spirit of things, I'd like to try putting together my own gift guide of sorts; a little bit Island  (or Canada, at least), a little bit DIY, a little bit of thrifting, and a little bit of Etsy.

First up in the Twenty-something Days of Xmas, Dreamboat Lucy sea glass jewellery. These ladies are from Kensington, PEI - one of my favourite small Island towns - and have been garnering all sorts of buzz for their cool clothing and accessories. I could go on all day about their wares but I'll stick with the sea glass jewellery because earrings and sea glass are my two favourite things to find and collect. Because the sea glass is authentic, no piece will be exactly alike. I love the saline patina, the colours, and the blend of modern, tough, and natural.

Visit their online shop to see available designs. While you're at it, check out their cool new blog, too!

All images are borrowed from the Dreamboat Lucy Winter 2013 jewellery lookbook and online shop.

Just listed! Mid-century modern candlestick holders

Have you visited my Etsy Shop - also named Milk & Amber - lately? I just put these neat teak 50's candle holders up, can't wait to put a few more items on tomorrow too! I have had some great luck with sales over the weekend, the store itself is the gift that keeps on giving.

Homey

Peter and I were hoping to host some visitors over the weekend, so the apartment is still unnaturally neat and tidy right now. So here are some pictures.

The living room (with my family's dog, Mia, for the afternoon)

Sniffing around. Conclusion: yes, I do in fact live here.

And the sun room (or, the laundry room, I guess) - the best hangout spot in the apartment.

Orange! The table was repainted orange; thrifted Navajo-patterned rug, pillow cases, Hudson Bay throw.

You need a wool blanket if you hang out in there!

The JR's sign - an old bar in Charlottetown until the 90's, I think - we found at the flea market.

Thrift Week 2012: Mid-Century Modern Edition

This week's haul has been mostly about fashion, but there were some neat finds for the home, too. Take this mid-century modern-style vase I found at Value Village for $2.99. I've been seeing this shape everywhere, in design magazines, on Etsy, blogs, you name it. But it's not like I can just go shopping at Hollace Cluny and buy some designer ceramic vases that cost as much as rent, so you can imagine my delight at finding a knock-off here in PEI for so little! Good things come to those who thrift.

Cheers! Happy hunting!

Screen Cap-tivating: Mad Men

Just started season five of Mad Men this week. After not bothering to keep up since season four ended, it's good to be back! Could have screen-capped the whole episode, but this was the first and only gem I decided to save. Oh, there will be more.

New items on Milk & Amber Etsy Shop

Well, it took most of my afternoon and early evening, but I managed to upload quite a few new items on my Etsy shop. Pop over to check out all my items, including this neat stuff!

*Remember, if you're on PEI, I offer 30% off your purchase if you'd like to do local pick-up. Making Islanders more stylish one vintage item at a time, haha...
