Playing around with Sea Glass

I've been enjoying making jewellery for myself a lot lately, and naturally I have begun to look for new tools and materials for such exploits. As I have noted before, I am a huge fan of Dreamboat Lucy's sea glass jewellery, and I will totally buy some, when I am ready to decide which pair to get! To tide myself over until then, I tried making some very low-rent versions, and for all intents and purposes, they're kinda pretty.

Like I said, low-rent, but the effect (green, shiny, glowy, natural) is there. Might make a few more... and before I know it, I can buy the real ones! Even better, I'm using up this huge bag of sea glass I've been collecting for no reason. Win win!

Off to more crafting! xo

Upcycled m&a earrings on Etsy!

Added four new items to Etsy today: my handmade upcycled vintage earrings. Check 'em out!

I can always make different permutations of what you see here too, as long as the bits and pieces are around! Get in touch if you're interested in any of them, or something similar!

I made some earrings 2: The Reckoning

Here's a bunch of earrings I made. Some were posted last time, some are new. Thinkin' real hard about putting a few of these suckers on Etsy (the nice ones, naturally).

The three pairs at the top are using recycled vintage silk, pearls from a damaged tank top bound for the garbage at work, and pink plastic beads from a thrifted vintage necklace.

Lots of broken and antique things here... and leather! Lots of leather.

Lots of vintage leather and suede up in here, drawn on with gold and copper Sharpies. The dangly gold pair have antique gold-plated bracelet links and chains from a broken vintage necklace.

(Pictured throughout, a thrifted embroidery circle with vintage bed sheet fabric.)

The mess!

Peter Pan

It feels like so little time since I was posting about 20+ degree weather and summery clothing, and here I am, in a wool (acrylic? enh) coat. Still sunny, still brisk, but a chill in the air that doesn't just allow for a little sweater or a scarf thrown over top. It's coat time.

Also, I need a better camera, yeesh.

+ Thrifted white Peter Pan-collar pea coat
+ Vintage oxblood suede-and-leather bag
+ Old Navy Rockstar Jeans
+ Payless grey almond-toe flats
+ Vintage marquise-cut-glass and rhinestone clip-on earrings

Uh oh, a toe is fraying...
Thought maybe this would show up a little better...

What I Wore & What I Found at Work & Earrings of the Day

Another fall day, another sweater-and-skinny-jeans combo. But not just any jeans! Thrifted Cheap Monday (on Monday, huh huh) jeans from work for only six dollars. Plus, they (more or less) fit!
I am also sooo happy with my new vintage suede-and-leather purse - which I will go ahead and refer to as 'oxblood' even though I agree with Kristin that it's totally overused. At least it's less pretentious than 'Chianti'?

+ Vintage Chanel-inspired wool cardigan
+ Vintage brown scarf, inherited from Mom
+ Thrifted Cheap Monday skinny jeans (!)
+ Vintage Givenchy clip-ons

Vintage Givenchy clip-ons, holla

Only six dollars at work! Never thought I'd find a pair
somewhere other than online, let alone here in little old PEI.
Vintage oxblood (yeah, yeah, I know) suede & leather cross-body satchel

What I Wore - Lazy/Busy Sunday

I love having Sundays off, especially when Peter and I can spend them together being both lazy and active. Lazy in the attitude, but active in the getting out and doing fun weekend stuff. Brunch, going to the beach (sea glass!), driving to Summerside, curry dinner with the family, all fun for a beautiful fall day like today. It's been so mild and lovely lately, perfect for a fisherman's sweater, dark jeans and brown leather!

+ Vintage royal-blue-and-gold scarf
                                    + Thrifted men's slouchy tan L.L. Bean fisherman's sweater
+ Old Navy Rock Star jeans in Ruby
+ Vintage men's brown leather loafers
                                     + Vintage blue-and-green marquis-cut gem clip-on earrings

Normally I do a black-liquid-liner cat-eye, but
today I did smudged brown all over. Weird.

What I Wore - Cozy Aztec

It must be fall now. I am actually starting to wear a) knit sweaters, b) pashmina scarves, and b) tights with most or all of my skirts. There are still some fabulously warm and sunny days, but they're getting farther and fewer between. So here was one such outfit recently, which incorporated all these fall staples.

+Vintage men's grey, white, and black Aztec-print cardigan
+ Heathered grey Old Navy "vintage" tee
+ Thrifted lavender pashmina cashmere-blend scarf
+ Vintage Made-in-Canada black miniskirt
+ Vintage brown leather satchel
+ Vintage Aztec/Navajo (Navatec? Azajo?) earrings
+ Thin studded Old Navy belt
+ Black Old Navy tights
+ Vintage men's tan woven leather brogues, from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NYC

Milk & Amber Earrings of the Day

Earrings of the Day on Milk & Amber are these mismatched abstract bits and pieces. Sort of avant garde artsy, and a little bit Saved-by-the-Bell-theme-song (um, did I say that somewhere already? I basically encapsulate all 90's design in that one clip). It's earrings like these that make me wish I was more crafty/handy!

What I Wore - Vintage Levi's

Well, October has been astonishingly beautiful so far in PEI - we're talking 20+ degrees and sunny every day - so I think it's understandable that I haven't let go of my summery outfits yet. This one started with the thrifted vintage men's Levi's jeans (pegged and ripped, natch ...yes, I said 'natch'). Added a burnout coral tank, some mint green beads, some beaded navy moccasin-loafers (loafasins?), a royal blue vintage scarf, a grey cardi, and some truly Southwestern vintage earrings (silver, turquoise, coral). Comfy, sort of unflattering, but kind of cool?

Milk & Amber Earrings of the Day

Well, it's past midnight, but I was originally going to write this about an hour ago. (Ends up Homeland is a pretty great show and we had to watch two episodes.) But I was going to say, it's October! Fall leaves! The Walking Dead! Gossip Girl! Toronto trip! Lots of good things. How about some pumpkin orange vintage straw hoop earrings to celebrate this great month?

Outfit of the Day - Coral, neckline, Southwestern

Continuing my seasonal obsession with all things pastel (or, as I mentioned in an earlier post, "Pinterest-coloured" as my sister and I have taken to saying), I'm loving this coral-pink poly-silk top I recently thrifted. It has a neat neckline detail, flowy shape, and is perfect untucked over jeans or tucked into a skirt. It was a perfect summer top, but will be fun to incorporate into fall and winter outfits as well. Today I've paired it with dark indigo Old Navy Rock Star jeans, and these neat Navajo (or Aztec? As if the average person can really tell the difference) inspired vintage earrings.

The earrings! Teal, coral-pink, periwinkle & gold. Perfect!

Neckline detail.

A winged cat-eye. (Also, in desperate need of an eyebrow wax.)
