Mint lace

Oh and here are some selfiez. Loving my (self-cut) hair lately, with these big floppy sideswept bangs. Also, this lace top (thrifted, worn backwards) always gets a snort from my sister, with whom I make fun of 'Pinterest colours' (mint green, shown here, or coral, peach, pink, rose gold, etc).

What would happen if I went blonde? How would I go about doing that? Help, Internet!

Holiday Look

Happy belated holidays! Things are still busy here as we get back to work in TWENTY-THIRTEEN, but not too busy for a quickie post! More to come on all the neato gifts I got (and some frankly equally neato gifts I gave!).

For now, a quick snap of my go-to look for all them holiday parties and fĂȘtes:
Jet-black winged liquid eyeliner (GOSH Long Lasting Eyeliner Pen) - check!
Sparkly vintage crystal cluster earrings (from an antiques shop on Queen W in Toronto)  - check!
Long-sleeve black lace (thrifted) - check!

Spoiler Alert! Gossip Girl Finale Screen Caps

Six long years of Gossip Girl, all wrapped up... Well, I guess at least I can say I loved Blair's wedding look. Just stunning!

Chuck also looked particularly dapper. Love the lapels!

Another dress close-up, love the little oyster/rosettes. I am sharing Blair's expression right now, though... There's always 90210. Sigh.

XOXO

Twenty-something Days Of Xmas: So Fresh and So Clean

Ah, soap. A classic Christmas gift in the MacDonald household to our poor mother, who is up to her ears in all things lavender and triple-milled. And yet we keep giving soap, and she keeps putting it in her clothing drawers. On the bright side, those dressers are going to smell awesome for the next hundred years... but if we have to give soap, I say we start buying nicer, local stuff. Sorry, Yardley's! Meet your replacements.

From Moonsnail Soapworks, located on Water Street in Charlottetown, some Exotic Swirl Natural Soap. Listen to this doozy: "A touch of the Orient! A warm and romantic bar scented with a blissful blend of patchouli, sweet orange and ylang ylang pure essential oils. Each bar has unique swirls of spice for a fun funky effect." Yeow. All Moonsnail's soaps are made in PEI, delicious smelling and evocative. I also love Spearmint Swirl, Dad's Licorice, Chai Tea, and everything else, but this one just hits all the right notes.

Similarly, the Soap Drawer has small-batch, made-in-PEI soaps with scents that I can only describe as scrumptious. I love their spicier scents, with orange, clove, and cinnamon, but their soothing scents - oatmeal, goat's milk, et al - are equally lovely. Their wares can be purchased in Charlottetown at Emmett & Ellie's on University Avenue.

Here's some PEI soap I haven't tried, but would love to, hint hint! The Great Canadian Soap Co. is based in Brackley Beach, PEI, and its soaps look like delicious cupcakes/fudge/squares. I mean, they actually have a Cocoa & Oatmeal hand-milled soap - I would love to wash my hands with a spider cookie! Yum!

So go out and buy your moms, and other loved ones with personal hygiene, some soap - even if it does just scent their socks and t-shirts. At least they'll carry the sweet smell of Island businesses flourishing!

Screen cap-tivating: Downton Wedding!

I have waited for this day, this episode, a long time. Me and this episode were meant to be together.

Oh, the splendour! I hope I can someday get Alisha (of Love Charlie) to create a hair piece that wows like this one.

Too much awesome for one frame.

Gossip Girl Screen Caps: The Beginning

I can't believe I only realized this now, but I can totally get screen caps of stuff I watch. I mean, holy fuck, I have never bothered to think that before. This is life-changing! Or at the very least, might spice up my blog a little. You better believe I'll be screen-capping more Gossip Girl.

Like such:

Lily was KILLING IT in this episode. Retro 60's-style dress (that BACK), hair, earrings. KILLING IT.

Find: Maybelline Superstay Golden Shimmer Balm

A few years back, I bought a tiny golden tube of shimmer balm at Shoppers Drug Mart for about eight dollars. It is totally elusive on PEI now (believe me, I've looked) but it can be ordered online, hurray! My parents were nice enough to order me several tubes on eBay for my birthday in March, so I'm set up for a few years at least! The find:
Maybelline Superstay Golden Shimmer Balm.

It's true,  I trekked everywhere to find this when my tube ran out, but to no avail. Most cosmeticians had no idea what I was even asking for, let alone whether or not they had any in stock or coming in. Why am I so crazy for this stuff, you ask? It's not the shimmer part, it's the balm. It's supposed to be layered over lipstick, but I use it as a highlighter around my eyes and blended in with my bronzer. You get the perfect sexed-up, dewy look. Trust me, you'll go through a stick of it like I did in no time!

Find: Beauty loot at Shoppers Drug Mart!

About a week ago, I spent about 38,000 Shoppers Optimum points at Shopper's Drug Mart, taking home an exciting haul of new beauty products. Some of my finds included:

Kings & Queens Caspar Myrrh Shimmering Body Milk (on clear-out!). Smells like spicy, sweet chai lattes, and has itty-bitty sparkles for a delicate shimmer. The scent is awesome, but can be overpowering if you load it on, so I mixed it with the Body Shop's Buriti Baby Body Butter (their best body butter, in my opinion) to make the scent more subtle.

Next is the Gosh Giant Sun Powder (on sale at the time for about $18). I am not a bronzer person, as I burn to a crisp if not careful and am otherwise happily fair-skinned, but this one caught my eye. It is sheer, and rather than depositing tons of pigment, what you get is a nuanced set of shades (pinky, bronzy, and light foundation tones). It reminds me of the light on your face from a sunset in the summer... on a date. That's an effect I'll try to mimic any day!

Also picked up Gosh's Nail Lacquer in Wild Lilac (regularly $6) - my favourite lilac/lavender polish yet (albeit I might only have one or two others around here somewhere). Creamy and opaque just like I like 'em.

Looking to make a few more splurges when I receive my RBC gift card for Shoppers. Thinking of picking up Annabelle's Smoothie Eyeshadow Pencil in Mokamirage (the perfect taupe).

Ah, cosmetics and toiletries, how I love thee.
