Thrift Week 2012: Half Off Sales! (Also it was pay day.)

These boots are what heaven looks like, if heaven were real and maybe a half-size too small. I have been desperately wanting a pair of flat brown leather ankle boots, preferably not a hundred dollars, preferably not too shiny and fancy, preferably vintage, preferably pointy. What a dream come true!  And, half off their 19.99 original price to boot! (huh huh)

Day-Off Thrift Adventure

Today is just great. It's mid-November, sunny, with a high of - wait for it - SEVENTEEN degrees. You better believe I went out and enjoyed it!

I found these Vera Wang Lavender Label jeans at work the other day. I'm not used to wide legs anymore, but after about eight people told me how much they "slimmed me down" (as if you can tell in this hasty photo), I decided to give them a chance. (I guess those Rockstars aren't exactly made for my shape, but whatever.) They have a nice mid/high waist which gives them little bit of a retro feel, which works with my tastes better than a plain old trouser jean.

On to Value Village. Found lots of neat stuff, including this sweater, which I eventually passed on. Might have to go back for it, it is awesome. Peach, mint, cable-knit, vintage, made in Bermuda. Yep, that ticks off a lot of good boxes for me. But it was $9.99, which for PEI thrifting is blasphemous. We'll see!

Now for the goodies I did buy!

Woven Indonesian fruit basket ($1.99), teak Indonesian incense holder ($0.99), handmade wooden Prince Edward Island spoon-holder ($1.99). Wood!

And then we have this awesome vintage milk glass canister, complete with retro flowers and a sunburst lid. Delightful! And only $1.99!

Also picked up these great thick woven Navajo-inspired patterned cushion covers, for $1.49.

 Lastly, these vintage gold sunburst/floral clip-ons with Aurora Borealis rhinestones for $3.99 - just lovely!

The Eagles

First Saturday off in over a month, you know what that means: Farmers' Market! Peter and I walked all the windy way on the trail this morning. It was so cold, I really needed this parka! But it was sunny and beautiful, very much worth the chill.

It feels like so little time since I was posting about 20+ degree weather and summery clothing, and here I am, in a wool (acrylic? enh) coat. Still sunny, still brisk, but a chill in the air that doesn't just allow for a little sweater or a scarf thrown over top. It's coat time.

What I Wore & What I Found at Work & Earrings of the Day

Another fall day, another sweater-and-skinny-jeans combo. But not just any jeans! Thrifted Cheap Monday (on Monday, huh huh) jeans from work for only six dollars. Plus, they (more or less) fit!
I am also sooo happy with my new vintage suede-and-leather purse - which I will go ahead and refer to as 'oxblood' even though I agree with Kristin that it's totally overused. At least it's less pretentious than 'Chianti'?

Another way to know it's really autumn: you can't help but want to swathe yourself in browns, oranges, reds, and other leaf-turning colours. But you'd want to do that anyway with this vintage silk Yves Saint Laurent scarf.

What I Wore - Lazy/Busy Sunday

I love having Sundays off, especially when Peter and I can spend them together being both lazy and active. Lazy in the attitude, but active in the getting out and doing fun weekend stuff. Brunch, going to the beach (sea glass!), driving to Summerside, curry dinner with the family, all fun for a beautiful fall day like today. It's been so mild and lovely lately, perfect for a fisherman's sweater, dark jeans and brown leather!

It must be fall now. I am actually starting to wear a) knit sweaters, b) pashmina scarves, and b) tights with most or all of my skirts. There are still some fabulously warm and sunny days, but they're getting farther and fewer between. So here was one such outfit recently, which incorporated all these fall staples.

The 70 Mile Yard Sale: The Finds

Now that our purchases from our 70 Mile Yard Sale (70MYS?) excursion have settled in, it's harder to corral them to get some good pictures. Missing from this non-exhaustive list are two genuine non-ironic vintage nature promo tees, a vintage Molson Canadian baseball tee, some retro kitchen stuff, some antique books and so forth. Pics to come, maybe! But for now:

Mixed in to our growing record collection were some Beach Boys and some 60's compilation discs. (Not really pictured.)

An enormous cobalt-and-turquoise vintage enamel flower pin so big, it eats other enamel flower pins.
